Dr. Cherise Joy Thompson who goes by the moniker of Joy Storm is a leader in the new school of contemporary artists who are combining nostalgic elements of yesteryear in a re-imagined contemporary way. She is constantly pushing the envelope and reinventing herself and her sound. She also has an MBA, Masters of Arts in English, and a Doctorate in Interdisciplinary Leadership. Joy Storm is a multi-talented singer and songwriter born and raised in Chicago IL. She is an artist that epitomizes the essence of the modern era and she is making music that is thoughtful, conscious, and driven by a desire to motivate, inspire, comfort, and spread love and joy to all those that hear it.Joy Storm grew up as a musically inclined child. Her maternal grandmother taught her to sing and play the piano at the tender age of 7. She later picked up the guitar and starred in a musical in her teen years in a production of Dreamgirls. As a musician, she has had a vast array of musical influences however she accredits the pivotal influences in her music to Old School R&B and soul artists such as Tina Turner, Aretha Franklin, Mavis Staples, Al Green as well as Rock icons such as Fleetwood Mac, Stevie Nicks, and Eric Clapton. This varied spectrum of influence has led to the development of Joy Storm the embodiment of originality and she uses her musical acumen and ideas to create an amalgamated and original sound. She is also inspired by her husband, who is also an artist known as Poetic Justice, and their 5 sons. She also draws inspiration from her own life experiences.This all culminates in Joy Storm producing a musical experience that is enjoyable, easy-going, and fun but still seeks to provoke thought in a contemporary way. Joy Storm also uses her music as a vehicle to express her perspectives and tell stories. She is inspired to create music that moves people and draws on the core values of music from eras past when icons made music that had an underlying message in their music. For Joy authenticity is the very ethos that encapsulates her music. Because of this she ultimately developed a style of songwriting that is transparent, daring, and full of hope, and reflective of her experiences, thought, and ambitions. Her smooth vocals are decorated by effortless intonations that are accentuated by a skillfully resonated voice and soothing warm tones. She possesses a modern-day mix that crescendos with spellbinding emotive undertones and soulful RnB style melodies.  It is clear that Joy Storm is on her way to becoming a worldwide phenomenon and a musician that will continuously change the status quo of the industry.Together with her husband, they founded CMI Radio, an internet radio station. The station is set for launch in June and has positioned itself to become the Home for Independent Artists. She took a leap of faith in starting her career by leaving a corporate job in Project Management after 15 years. Joy is currently focused on her artistry and also teaches composition and literature classes at the tertiary level and hopes to one day empower the next generation by opening up a school for performing arts.Joy Storm's singles "Animalistic Love" and "Reckless" showcase her lyricism and smooth vocals in a uniquely constructed piece of musical artistry.  She wants to tell stories that are relatable and have impactful messages. Her music exhibits not only her versatility and vocal prowess but has surely cemented her style and paved the way for the varied expressions of her musical ideas and artistic craft. Her debut album will drop later this summer. She also features on two tracks in her husband, Poetic Justice’s new “Genesis” album.There is no doubt that in the near future Joy Storm will light up arenas and auditoriums and grace the greatest stages the world has to offer and bring beauty and power into her performances.
